interpack China 2026: Practical Packaging Technology for Cost, Flexibility and Sustainability Challenges

Packaging manufacturers are navigating an increasingly demanding production environment. Raw-material price volatility, supply-chain uncertainty, pressure to balance cost with consistent quality, and more frequent changeovers for multi-SKU production are reshaping investment priorities. At the same time, automation, compliance and sustainability requirements are raising the bar for every packaging line.
From 16–18 November 2026, interpack China 2026 will take place at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). As part of the global interpack alliance, the event will bring together processing and packaging machinery, packaging materials and containers, printing and labelling technologies, packaging design and sustainable solutions. The focus is on practical, production-relevant technologies that visitors can evaluate for real shop-floor application.
Global solutions for the packaging value chain
interpack China 2026 will connect international packaging innovation with the China market. According to the event’s original release, exhibitors from 12 countries and regions are expected to present one-stop processing and packaging solutions for sectors including food and beverage, confectionery, bakery, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, consumer goods and industrial products.
The confirmed international lineup includes companies such as Multivac, Waldner, Langguth, Stora Enso, Nordmeccanica, SATO, Papkot and KYORAKU, alongside other machinery, material and packaging-technology suppliers. For PRM Taiwan readers, the exhibition offers a concentrated view of technologies relevant to automation, flexible packaging, material efficiency, coding and labelling, inspection, and end-of-line packaging.
Nine routes designed around production needs
A key feature of the 2026 edition is its series of dedicated navigation routes. Rather than requiring visitors to search the show floor broadly, these routes are designed to guide buyers towards suppliers matched to specific production scenarios and sourcing requirements. To address these diverse needs, interpack China 2026 is introducing dedicated navigation routes. Designed around real-world production scenarios, these curated routes directly target the industry's most pressing concerns—from navigating material price hikes and supply cuts, to achieving cost efficiency, meeting new compliance standards, and safely ramping up capacity.
The nine tracks are: AI & Smart Packaging; Plastic Packaging; Paper Packaging; Food & Beverage; Home/Personal Care/Cosmetics; Foodservice/Coffee/Tea; Logistics/Cross-Border E-Commerce; Pharmaceuticals/Healthcare; and Pet Food.
For manufacturers, these routes address practical questions that increasingly determine line performance: Can existing equipment handle new materials? Can changeovers be accelerated while quality remains stable? How can a factory reduce downtime, manage cost pressure and meet tighter compliance requirements? The aim is to make visits more efficient by connecting decision-makers directly with relevant machinery and material providers.
“Packaging Extreme Challenges” puts technology to the test
Specifications and sample packs do not always reveal how a solution will perform at production scale. Packaging can fail under conditions such as heavy-duty filling, high-temperature sterilisation, long-haul transport or frequent changeovers—leading to capacity loss, waste and higher operating costs.
To address this gap, interpack China 2026 is upgrading its Packaging Extreme Challenges area. The interactive showcase will recreate shop-floor-style conditions so visitors can see materials, products and machinery tested in practical scenarios.
Planned live demonstrations include a spouted pouch designed to withstand up to 100 kg of applied pressure, a resealable lidding film tested for retention after 50 uses, and a multi-format packaging machine completing a full line changeover in 30 seconds. Additional demonstrations will feature hot-melt case sealing at 40–100 boxes per minute, X-ray inspection capable of detecting foreign bodies as small as 0.1 mm, thermoforming with 80–90% sheet utilisation and 11 kWh energy draw, powder packaging at more than 80 cuts per minute, and a sanitary incline conveyor designed for 30-second cleaning cycles.
For packaging professionals, the value lies in seeing how equipment and materials perform under conditions closer to everyday manufacturing demands. The event is positioned as an opportunity to compare technologies, discuss application requirements with suppliers and identify solutions for line flexibility, hygienic operation, throughput, pack quality and resource efficiency.
