Not All Clicks Are Created Equal: Inside PRM’s April Traffic Spike

In April 2025, PRM Plastform (www.prm-taiwan.com) experienced an unprecedented surge in web traffic. Our usual monthly visits of 50,000–60,000 suddenly skyrocketed to 500,000! Initially, we thought our website had suddenly gone viral, but deeper analysis quickly burst our bubble. Most visits originated from IP addresses in Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States, visiting both outdated and current website pages, with bounce rates averaging around 92%.

This peculiar traffic surge was a wake-up call, prompting PRM to investigate global trends and the broader implications behind this flood of invalid web traffic.

Global Perspective: B2B Platforms Under Siege by Bot Armies

Turns out, PRM wasn't alone in this struggle. The 2024 Global Internet Traffic Report highlighted a significant shift: bot traffic surpassed human traffic for the first time, accounting for 51% of total traffic. Malicious bots alone made up 37%, marking an increase of 5 percentage points from the previous year.

Regions like Hong Kong and Singapore, home to numerous data centers and proxy servers, became major hubs for malicious bot activity. Singapore alone saw malicious bots comprising nearly 45% of its total internet traffic. Even prominent B2B platforms like Alibaba International and Plásticos were inundated with spam inquiries through SEM advertisements, underscoring the global scale of this challenge.

According to Lunio’s latest data, invalid click rates on Google Ads reached approximately 5.5%, with other advertising platforms hitting as high as 17.5%. This widespread click fraud has become a significant concern for businesses worldwide.

PRM Strikes Back: Turning Crisis into Opportunity

Facing this unprecedented bot invasion, PRM swiftly mobilized our defenses.

First, we recalibrated our SEM ad strategies, immediately pausing or limiting campaigns in regions flagged as high-risk, preventing further waste of our ad budget on fraudulent clicks.

Second, our team began manually reviewing each incoming inquiry more carefully. Messages from suspicious IP addresses or with unusual patterns are now reviewed before being forwarded to suppliers, helping reduce the number of spam-related disruptions.

Furthermore, we enhanced our web analytics tools and implemented real-time alert systems to promptly detect and neutralize suspicious activities, ensuring each inquiry on the PRM platform remains genuinely valuable.
