BARM for Success : How JANDI'S Implements Mr. Jerry's Concept to Enhance Machinery Supply

First of all, we would like to share some good news with you. While JANDI’S celebrate our 32nd anniversary on January 23, 2023, the General Manager of our company, Mr. Jerry M. J. Huang, graduated from the Department of Business Administration, National Chung Cheng University, and got his Ph.D. degree.

His dissertation is about the manufacturer equity of the manufacturing industry, exploring the role of the manufacturer in the context of the M2M (manufacturer-to-manufacturer), in which the seller and buyer are both a specialist in their profession. The interviews had been conducted with several manufacturers of plastic machinery in Taiwan and also at K-2022 with buyers from different areas.

Our General Manager Mr. Jerry proposed the concept of BARM manufacturer equity, that is, the possible influences on the buying decision from 4 aspects of a manufacturer, namely, Manufacturing Background (B), Accountability (A), Operating Resources (R), and Factory Management (M).

According to the assessment on Turnitin, this dissertation has only 2% similarity to others, which addresses the very high originality of his work.

Brand theory, based on the salience of the corporation or product name, mostly comes from the research on consumer products of internationally renowned companies, which may not be applicable in the context of industrial marketing, besides small and medium-sized enterprises usually lack the necessary resources to achieve a worldwide reputation. BARM manufacturer equity explained the facts that why some of the buyers place the orders in the exhibition with the manufacturers they met the first time. It shows that industrial buyers do not necessarily pay attention to the brand, but attach great importance to the visible capabilities of the manufacturers through machine operation and/or physical product display. In addition, buyers are looking for suppliers with a certain equal business scale and also who can offer support and resources (such as quick after-sales service and technical support). 

The nature of industrial procurement usually is to solve a problem, a functional purpose, such as to buy a machine for more production capacity, to replace an old machine, or to buy spare parts to repair equipment, not for symbolic purposes.

BARM, also means a kind of yeast, is very suitable for Small & Medium size Manufacturers to implement. It helps JANDI’S to review the conditions of being a good and qualified machinery supplier, gives us the guidelines to supply more reliable quality machines, to do better services to all our customers, and also provides the standards to evaluate and urge ourselves to become a better manufacturer every day.
